Didn't have a good morning...

If you have a fancy push-start button in your car and a cute little key fob to match, you can lock your keys in your car!

Eero Saarinen

Had to do a post on my favorite architect and product designer. You cannot walk without tripping over one of his designs or products. His architecture and furniture is seen everywhere and he is by far one of the best.
One of his most famous visions of art is the TWA terminal at New York’s Idlewild airport.

The combination of amazing architecture and engineering allows this building to have a completely open interior, no columns to interrupt the space. The bird-like symbolism connects to the journey that a passenger is about to take and the contour of the building represents a jet or bird in flight.

Gensler Architecture recently added onto Saarinen’s historic building with the JetBlue Airways terminal. They kept the unique architecture alive with curved rooflines to incorporate the original building.

"All the curves, all the spaces and elements right down to the shape of the signs, display boards, railings and check-in desks were to be of a matching nature. We wanted passengers passing through the building to experience a fully-designed environment, in which each part arises from another and everything belongs to the same formal world."
-Eero Saarinen

A huge item on my “someday wish list” is a Saarinen dining and side table. This classic piece is everywhere but don’t let the numbers fool you.  These furniture items are extremely expensive and sold exclusively by Knoll Studio.

Saarinen inspires the design world and his work has even inspired films such as Men In Black (one of my favorites - love Will Smith!)

So lets recap, Eero Saarinen is kick-a**!!

DIY - Flat&Gloss Paint

One of the simplest ways to achieve a creative and custom wall covering is by using different paint finishes. This process is accomplished by purchasing the same paint color in two different finishes - typically a flat and a gloss.

Love the entry below.

For a more subtle pattern you can purchase the paint finishes closer together on the finish list.

Typical finishes in order:
Matte/Flat
Eggshell
Satin
Semi-gloss
Gloss

This DIY project I have been planning to do for 2 years! Still on my "to-do" list...

Mooooo - Faux

Lets talk about hides baby! Love them? Hate them?
The organic, eclectic look of these pieces give a room character, personality or even a little grrrrrr.

Using a hide is similar to owning a custom piece of furniture since each hide is unique. Shopping for one or viewing samples can be a tedious task trying to decide which one fits your room or personality.  But who doesn't love shopping?
The photo below is my "someday closet" inspiration - I will have a zebra hide in my hot pink, extremely organized closet... someday.

And for those of you that want to get a little bit more furry, there are always the sheepskin versions.

If you are opposed to purchasing a real hide there are numerous faux versions like the one in my foyer (photo below). IKEA has both faux hide and sheepskin rugs for a great price!

It has been decided!

For Halloween this year, my closest friends and I will be in full character as the Baywatch crew!

"Cause I'm always ready
I won't let you out of my sight!"
(don't lie to yourself, we all can sing the theme song to Baywatch!)

DIY - Shower time!

I took on the adventure of updating my shower curtain! Did some searching online for ideas and inspiration... came to the conclusion that shower curtains are lame.  The simple, shimmery green curtain has been occupying my bathrooms for about six years -  time to get a new one!

In the end, purchasing fabric and creating my own was the way to go. IKEA! Thou lovest! Here is the final product!

*Tip: since most fabric is 54" wide and a typical shower curtain needs to be 72” wide, I purchased black fabric that matched the patterned fabric and created panels to widen the curtain. I was able to get a custom look for less than what I would have paid for a new curtain.

Here is the budget breakdown:
-SARALISA fabric $8.99 per yard – Purchased 3 yards, $26.97
-Black fabric $3.99 per yard – Purchased 3 yards, $11.97
-Thread – already had
-Shower curtain hooks – already had
-Shower curtain liner – already had

Grand total: $38.94
Under $40 for a new, custom shower curtain!

With some time, patience and a sewing machine this DIY project was a cinch!
