One Size Does Not Fit All

It's reality. In the work environment workspaces are getting smaller, real estate is shrinking and all of this translates into cost savings for owners. So many of the office environments that I space plan and design for have lowered the square footage needed for each employee. More collaborative or group spaces are being created to encourage a shared environment. These new work environments promote collaborative meetings among employees rather than being isolated at their desks.

We can even take this philosophy one step further with the term "alternative work strategies." Allowing or encouraging employees to work anywhere they want. A study sponsored by Steelcase Inc. and Coronet Global confirm that most companies have formalized one of these strategies and only 14% say that they do not have one in place and are not planning on implementing one this year.

The residential design world has even caught on. Restoration Hardware has just released a special issue magazine of Big Style Small Spaces, "We heard you. One size just doesn't fit all." They have scaled down their collection to fit smaller spaces.

And speaking of spaces getting smaller, I will soon be going from 1,850 sq. ft. to about 575 sq. ft. So stay tuned for more of that transformation!

Blime Light

"I made that light!"
Love this unique, do-it-yourself project to create your own pendent light fixture. The Blime Light designers based the pendent design off the audio taken during a gathering of friends using algorithm technology. Shipped flat with all the parts and pieces, you just snap them together. And the fixture comes in an array of finishes; 24 card stock colors, 100% recycled white vellum and a special edition wood version. Pick up a light cord from IKEA and your done.

Tuesday Candy

Posting some Tuesday eye candy in black and white. Love the stripes and the airy feel of the console table. The white pot and white orchids are so fresh. Inspiration for my future black and white pad.

Interface

Eye Candy for Tuesday.

How can you not love this collection? I have blogged numerous times about InterfaceFlor but this series is from their commercial hospitality line. Plank size modular carpet tiles, about 10"x40", called Walk The Plank. Gorgeous.

Beautiful Plumbing

This post title sounds like an oxymoron. But in the world of plumbing fixtures, design has changed. The options are limitless and can even be overwhelming. I have been searching for some unique and aesthetically pleasing fixtures for a corporate headquarters. My search brought me to several fixture manufacturers and I was pleasantly surprised with the options and their designs. It made me think how much fun it would be to select fixture for my house one day.

How great is this slim prep sink from Kohler? With a simple touch, the sink rinses food scraps into a garbage disposal. The disposal automatically turns on and off, leaving you free to move on to another task. Functional and unique.

An oldie but goodie. Apron front sinks are beautiful and remind me of the traditional farmhouse sinks. The charming detail on this apron sink is from Kohler.

I couldn't resist posting this glass bathroom bowl from Kohler. Stunning.

And of course some bathroom eye candy...
